چکیده

SILK is an expressive Semantic Web rule language and system equipped with scalable reactive higher-order defaults. We present one of its latest novel features: a graphical user interface (GUI) for knowledge entry, query answering, and justification browsing that supports user specification and understanding of advanced courteous prioritized defeasible reasoning. We illustrate the use of the GUI in an example from college-level biology of modeling and reasoning about hierarchicallystructured causal processes with interfering multiple causes.

Graphical Representation of Defeasible Logic Rules Using Digraphs

Defeasible reasoning is a rule-based approach for efficient reasoning with incomplete and conflicting information. Nevertheless, it is based on solid mathematical formulations and is not fully comprehensible by end users, who often need graphical trace and explanation mechanisms for the derived conclusions. Directed graphs (or digraphs) can assist in this affair, but their applicability is bala...

A Graphical Rule Authoring Tool for Defeasible Reasoning in the Semantic Web

Defeasible reasoning is a rule-based approach for efficient reasoning with incomplete and inconsistent information. Such reasoning is useful for many applications in the Semantic Web, such as policies and business rules, agent brokering and negotiation, ontology and knowledge merging, etc. However, the syntax of defeasible logic may appear too complex for many users. In this paper we present a ...

Implementing Injunctive Social Norms Using Defeasible Reasoning

Believability requires video game characters to consider their actions within the context of social norms. Social norms involve a broad range of behavioral defaults, obligations, and injunctions unrelated to strictly causal reasoning. Defeasible reasoning involves rationally compelling but deductively invalid arguments, such as reasoning with rules that allow exceptions. This paper investigates...

Visualizing Defeasible Logic Rules for the Semantic Web

Omni-directional Hyper Logic Programs in SILK and RIF

SILK is an expressive Semantic Web rule language and system equipped with scalable reactive higher-order defaults. We present two of its latest novel features. Omni rules are prioritized defeasible clauses that provide a higher-level expressive abstraction for users by making rules omni-directional. They handle multi-way conflicts. And they are soundly interoperable with FOL and W3C OWL as well...
